Anisotropic intrinsic anomalous Hall effect in epitaxial Fe films on GaAs(111)
The anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in epitaxial Fe films on GaAs(111) has been investigated as a function of film thickness and temperature. The intrinsic contribution from the Berry curvature is singled out from the extrinsic ones and determined to be 821 −1 cm−1, which agrees to the theoretical prediction of 842 −1 cm−1 and is considerably smaller than 1100 −1 cm−1 for Fe(001). This result provi...
متن کاملTemperature dependence of the intrinsic anomalous Hall effect in nickel
The unusual temperature dependence of the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in Ni is investigated by an experimental approach which enables us to extract the intrinsic anomalous Hall conductivity over the whole temperature range. In stark contrast to the existing literature, the intrinsic contribution in Ni is found to be strongly temperature dependent between 5 and 150 K, where the corresponding mag...
متن کاملCoherent description of the intrinsic and extrinsic anomalous Hall effect in disordered alloys on an ab initio level.
A coherent description of the anomalous Hall effect is presented that is applicable to pure and disordered systems. This is achieved by an implementation of the Kubo-Středa equation using the fully relativistic Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker method in combination with the coherent potential approximation. Applications to the pure ferromagnets Fe and Ni led to results in full accordance with previous wo...
متن کاملAnomalous Hall effect
We present a review of experimental and theoretical studies of the anomalous Hall effect (AHE), focusing on recent developments that have provided a more complete framework for understanding this subtle phenomenon and have, in many instances, replaced controversy by clarity. Synergy between experimental and theoretical work, both playing a crucial role, has been at the heart of these advances. ...
متن کاملGiant anisotropic magnetoresistance in a quantum anomalous Hall insulator
When a three-dimensional ferromagnetic topological insulator thin film is magnetized out-of-plane, conduction ideally occurs through dissipationless, one-dimensional (1D) chiral states that are characterized by a quantized, zero-field Hall conductance. The recent realization of this phenomenon, the quantum anomalous Hall effect, provides a conceptually new platform for studies of 1D transport, ...
